STERLING, VA.    Aretech, LLC the world leader in robotic body-weight support systems, announces the first installation of ZeroG 3D, a 3-dimensional body-weight support system. The Kennedy Krieger Institute in Middle River, MD is the first center in the world to start using ZeroG 3D with their patients.

ZeroG 3D provides dynamic body-weight support and fall protection and allows patients to move freely in a workspace up to 500 square feet.  Using ZeroG 3D, therapists can safely work with their patients on gait, balance, and functional activities of daily living.   ZeroG 3D is ideal for simulating real-world scenarios such as navigating a kitchen, laundry room, or work on stepping strategies in any direction.

Aretech’s CEO, Joe Hidler, PhD says “Kennedy Krieger has been using Aretech technology at two of their other locations.  They are a wonderful organization, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that they are the first to be using ZeroG 3D with their patients.”

“We are excited that our new White Marsh location for the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury is the first in the world to use Aretech’s ZeroG 3D.  We chose the ZeroG 3D to be the critical piece of innovative rehabilitation technology for our patients who receive activity-based restorative therapy’” said Tom Novotny, AVP, Director of Operations.

The ZeroG 3D installed at Kennedy Krieger has a workspace that is 10-feet wide by 50-feet long.  This large area gives the staff a wide variety of options in treating their patients, including using a treadmill and other equipment while using dynamic body-weight support and fall protection.

Aretech Introduces ZeroG 3D

Aretech LLC, the world leader in robotic body-weight support systems, introduced ZeroG 3D at the recent American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting (APTA-CSM) in San Diego, California.  Aretech’s ZeroG 3D is the world’s first 3-dimensional robotic body-weight support system which can support a patient up to 450 pounds using a single point of support rather than multiple cables within the clinician’s workspace.

ZeroG 3D allows patients to move unrestricted within a workspace up to 500 square feet with dynamic body-weight support and fall protection.  With ZeroG 3D, a wide variety of activities such as gait, balance, turning, side-stepping and navigation can be practiced safely with complete freedom.  The workspace can also be set up to simulate real-world situations such as a laundry room, kitchen, or bedroom for patients to safely improve their skills.

In addition to multi-directional tracking, ZeroG 3D has customizable boundaries for patients who need lateral support while walking in a straight line.  The robot can be locked along a single plane or can move within paths of varying widths to limit the lateral movement.

“It was so much fun seeing the excitement of physical therapists at APTA-CSM!  As they tried ZeroG 3D, you could see how they were envisioning the limitless possibilities of what their patients could accomplish with multi-directional dynamic body-weight support,” said Dr. Joe Hidler, PhD, CEO of Aretech.

“ZeroG 3D will allow me to work on stepping strategies in all directions in a natural way, similar to what is done in the real-world,” said Whitney McGinn, PT, DPT, MSCS attending the APTA-CSM conference from the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

ZeroG 3D offers up to 200 pounds of dynamic body-weight support with advanced fall protection by movement range or by speed of descent.  The workspace can be designed to accommodate equipment such as mats, treadmills, and stairs anywhere underneath ZeroG 3D.

Dr. Hidler added, “ZeroG 3D builds off the technologies Aretech has perfected over the last 14 years that our customers have come to trust and love.  Combining our safety, performance, and features with our top-level customer service, we believe ZeroG 3D will become the gold standard in neurorehabilitation.”

About ZeroG 3D

ZeroG 3D is a robotic body-weight support system which automatically tracks patients as they move freely in any direction. The dynamic body-weight support offloads a percentage of the patient’s weight as they perform activities in a full 3-dimensional workspace, while the advanced fall protection provides the highest level of safety.
